On Sunday, Heather Richardson earned a gold medal at the World Cup in Berlin, Germany by winning the 1000 meter race with a time of 1:14:51. Brittany Bowe who had previously earned a gold medal in the 1000 meter event in Salt Lake City, skated her way into a second place finish. Richardson and Bowe both have deep roots in the sport of inline speed skating, with both having past success in World Championships Roller Speed Skating events. Next year in Sochi, Brittany Bowe will get her first crack at earning an Olympic medal, while Richardson will be hoping to improve on her sixth place finish in the 1000 meter race back in 2010, at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Judging by recent World Cup event results, it seems that the USA will have a great chance of winning a few medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, and it seems even more likely that they will be hanging around the neck of speed skaters who begun their quest skating on wheels.
